Apa itu Komposisi Fotografi

Komposisi atau dengan isitlah composition dalam Bahasa Inggris merupakan teknik dasar menata elemen-elemen dalam gambar, elemen-elemen fotografi ini mencakup garis, bentuk, warna, terang dan gelap. Yang paling utama dari aspek komposisi adalah menghasilkan visual impact (sebuah kemampuan untuk menyampaikan perasaan yang anda inginkan untuk berekspresi dalam foto).

Dengan komposisi, foto akan tampak lebih menarik dan enak dipandang dengan pengaturan letak dan perbandaingan objek-objek yang mendukung dalam suatu foto. Dengan demikian perlu menata sedemikian rupa agar tujuan dapat tercapai, apakah itu untuk menyampaikan kesan statis dan diam atau sesuatu mengejutkan. Dalam komposisi selalu ada satu titik perhatian yang pertama menarik perhatian.

Tujuan Komposisi

  1. Dengan mengatur komposisi foto, kita juga dapat membangun “mood” suatu foto dan keseimbangan keseluruhan objek foto.
  2. Menyusun perwujudan ide menjadi sebuah penyusunan gambar yang baik sehingga terwujud sebuah kesatuan (unity) dalam karya.
  3. Melatih kepekaan mata untuk menangkap berbagai unsur dan mengasah rasa estetik dalam pribadi pemotret.

Understanding Depth of Field

Depth of Field object associated with how sharp the photos we take. it depends on how big the opening of the lens used in the shooting. so that each photo has a matte finish that is different. In this discussion will present some things about the lens aperture and Depth of Field itself. To understand the Depth of Field, it would be better if we first understand the lens aperture.

Any lens used on the camera has a level or size of each and produce different images. Aperture lenses generally have a size by using the symbol f with numbering. In addition to the lens aperture affects the Depth of Field of a photograph, it also affects the size of the incoming light.

1. Large Aperture (f/1.2, f/1.4, f/1.8, f/2.8, f/3.5)

Large aperture gives advantages in lower light or when shooting a little because even though the intensity of light is very minimal but it could provide for the lens to produce a photograph that was enough light.

2. Medium Aperture (f / 4, f/5.6, f/6.2, f/7.1)

Intermediate lens aperture provides enough light enters the camera when the light intensity is not too dark. Most of the standard and telephoto lenses generally have a medium-size aperture.

3. Small Aperture (f / 8, f/10, f/11, f/16, f/20, f/22, f/24, f/30)

Small aperture resulted in the intensity of light entering into the camera less than the large and medium-sized openings. Aperture lens like this will affect the camera shutter speed to be down a
few stops.

After understanding some of the type and size of the aperture lens, this course will also make it easier to understand about themselves and the Depth of Field will be very helpful when trying to determine how thick the desired Depth of Field when creating a photograph. In this case I Depth of Field categorize it into three types and usefulness. Namely, among others :

1. Thin

Thin Depth of Field resulting from using a large aperture lens, the distance between the main object and the background distance away and taking pictures of distant objects (using a telephoto lens with a maximum zooming) and by using macro mode.

Using a thin Depth of Field is perfect to make the main object of focus is much more visible. In addition, thin Depth of Field is very good if you want to avoid interference from the background and the results background will be a blur.

At the photo shoot with a thin Depth of Field suitable for photographing the type of macro photos, photo portrait, close-up photographs, photographs of models and can also be used to photograph candid.

2. Medium

This Depth of Field are generated from intermediate lens aperture, the foreground and background is not too far away.
Depth of Field like this is suitable for making photos look like the main object is not so "alone". it's good to give the impression of where the image objects that are not so clear / clear or describe objects in public places such as giving the impression in the yard, in parks, indoor or another.

3. Thickness

This Depth of Field produced from a small lens aperture and / or wide lenses. This Depth of Field type is intended for all of the existing objects in the foreground or background details clearly visible and not produce the impression of motion blur.

Use this Depth of Field usually very suitable for panoramic photo or a landscape, scenery and the like.

1. Composition

Composition is a visual process of organizing the elements and individual details of a scene into a balanced and pleasing arrangement. Every composition should have point of interest. To make PoI (Point of Interest), There are some elements in composition:
  • Line, shape, light, color
  • Pattern
  • Texture
  • Symmetry
  • Deep of Field
  • Rule of Third
  • Diagonal
  • Direction of Movement
  • Framing
  • Contrast
  • Balance
  • Simplicity

2. Angle of View

Angle of view is the way how we see the object of photography. There are:
  • Low Level
Low level or it can called with frog level is shot from under the object. For example capture the flying bird, the high tower, the big building, or etc.
  • Normal Level
Normal level usually called eye level. Its mean that the photographer's camera shot parallel with the object.
  • High Level
High level or can called with bird level is shooting the object from high point level. example shot the crowded market/street, the wide field, or etc.

3. Exposure

Every photo need light to showing the message or object. But, sometimes there a few of photos that less pleasing to look by eyes caused by too much highlight or less of light (object too dark). So, necessary to adjust light-meters set in enough light. There are exposure measuring:
  • Under exposure
Under exposure it is mean that the photo has low contrast, low highlight and it's look dark.
  • High exposure
High exposure it is mean that the photo has too brightness, over light, low contrast and lost image detail.
  • Normal exposure
Normal exposure is a photo has enough light, brightness, contrast and it is similar with the fact.

4. Depth of Field

Depth of Field or we can call DoF, it's mean how make our photo become full detail or just a part of object made focused. Depth of Field determined or influenced by distance between foreground and background and aperture of lens. For more information see Understanding Depth of Field

Basic Camera Controls


EXPOSURE

Shutter speed and aperture combine to help you allow the correct amount of light to enter your camera, known as “exposure”. It is very much like filling up a glass of water. You could let the water trickle in for a long time, or you could pour it in very quickly. Shutter speed is like how long the water runs for, and the aperture is like how hard the water is running. A third variable - ISO - controls your camera sensor’s light sensitivity.

A. Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is measured in fractions of a second according to how long the shutter is open for. A shutter speed of 60 means the shutter is open for 1/60 of a second. The longer the shutter is open, the more light enters the camera. Faster shutter speeds (1/250 - 1/1000) will be help you stop action. Slower shutter speeds (1/15 - 1sec) will allow more blur of motion. Because of this, you shouldn’t hand hold your camera at shutter speeds lower than 1/60. B. Apature

Aperture describes the size of the iris inside your lens. The lower the number, the larger the iris is. Also, the larger the aperture is, the more light enters the camera. Higher numbers mean a small opening, and less light. Aperture is used to compensate for the changing of light due to faster or slower shutter speeds. In other words, a faster shutter speed (less light) will require a larger aperture (more light) and vice verse. But aperture also has an effect on the amount of focus in your scene, or the “depth of field.” The higher the f-number (f11, f16, f22), the more of the scene will be in focus. Lower f-numbers will reduce the amount of focus in your scene leaving just the critical plane of focus. Often with digital cameras the range of f-stops is very limited (2.8-8). C. ISO

ISO is a number to indicate the sensitivity or “speed” of the sensor chip recording your image. The higher the number, the more sensitive (or “faster”) the sensor is, and therefore the less light it requires to make an adequate exposure. A sensor at 100 will need twice as much light to make the same exposure than at 200. In lower light situations you will find it easier to get a decent shutter speed by setting the ISO higher, however the higher it goes the more “noise” or graininess you’ll get.
