Make Custom Bokeh

Bokeh is basically out of focus areas on an image, usually this would be in a circular or hexagon shape as that is the shape of the blades that make the aperture inside the camera. By covering the lens with black card and cutting a shaped hole in the front we can manipulate the appearance of this bokeh in our images. To learn about bokeh see Bokeh.

In this page I share you how to make custom bokeh as you want to. But, before we make it, we must prepare some equipments and tools.

Here there are:

1. Cutter or Scissor

2. Black Hard Papers

3. Glue / Adhesive Paper /Tape

4. Fix Lens with large aperture (ex: EF-S 50 f/1.8, etc)

This is just optional, but I recommend you to use tripod to avoid shake from you hand especially in low light.

If you have to completing equipment above, let's see the steps:
  1. Cut the paper with scissors one part circle and one part rectangle. The circle paper must suitable with the lens diameters.
  2. In the middle circle is punched with a paper form in accordance with what we want, like stars, hearts, butterflies or others.
  3. Pairs of paper round with a square of paper with glue or adhesive. In the middle circle is punched with a paper form in accordance with what we want like stars, hearts, butterflies or the other.
